This course explores the definition of hate crimes, federally and under Montana law, and the rising prevalence of hate based crimes in the United States. Emphasis is on the early identification and investigation of hate crimes so that they are properly charged and sentenced under Montana law. The course also addresses what has been learned from recent hate events and how to proactively prepare for events that are likely to involve hate groups and the potential for violence.

The course is approved for 2 P.O.S.T. credits.
