Second only to drug dealing, human trafficking is tied with the illegal arms trade as the second largest criminal industry in the world. Even in Montana, law enforcement officers are confronted with this widespread crime. As criminals invent new ways to profit and exploit people, law enforcement must learn new techniques and strategies to adapt to the changing trends. This training will include, recognizing signs of human trafficking, common language used in the industry, gathering critical physical evidence roadside and a checklist to conduct trauma informed victim interviews. Most recently, HR 1865, (FOSTA) Fight Online Sex Trafficking Act was signed by the President on April 11, 2018. HR 1865, seeks to subject websites to criminal and civil liability when 3rd party (users) misuse online personal lawfully.
