Fox Calls on Secretary Jewell to Visit Colstrip, See Impacts of Anti-coal Rules

“The regulations Interior Secretary Jewell is implementing have dire consequences for Montana’s economy,” said Montana Attorney General Tim Fox. “I strongly encourage her to visit with those who will be most impacted by her anti-coal policies.”

“Although we’ve been able to temporarily stay the so-called ‘Clean Power Plan,’ there are many other federal regulations that are part of the war on coal that need to be addressed. Federal coal leasing contributes approximately $50 million per biennium to the state coffers, and Jewell’s moratorium on federal coal leasing will leave Montana with not only fewer jobs, but a large budget hole to fill. She needs to realize that the rules she is pushing don’t just hurt the coal industry, but the communities and tribal nations that depend on good-paying coal jobs and revenue. Her actions have real world consequences, and she needs to face them.”
