Fox’s Statement on Crow Nation Acquiring Interest in Washington Export Terminal

Montana Attorney General Tim Fox released the following statement regarding today’s announcement that the Crow Nation of Indians will be acquiring an interest in the proposed Gateway Pacific Terminal at Cherry Point, Washington:

“Today’s announcement that Montana’s Crow Nation will acquire an interest in the proposed Gateway Pacific export terminal further reinforces the need for a fair and lawful permitting review process, not one driven by politics toward a pre-determined outcome. Montana has interstate commerce rights under the U.S. Constitution and it would be inappropriate for a sister state to arbitrarily pick and choose what Montana goods can pass through on their way to market. We will continue to monitor the permit reviews for both proposed export terminals in Washington to ensure the processes and outcomes comply with the law.”
