SUMMARY:ARIDE (Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement)
DESCRIPTION:POST has approved 16 hours \nARIDE is intended to bridge the gap between the SFST and DEC/DRE programs by providing officers with general knowledge related to drug impairment and by promoting the use of DREs in states that have the DEC Program. One of the more significant aspects of ARIDE is the required student demonstration of the SFST proficiency requirement. Failure to demonstrate SFST proficiency requires the student to be removed from the course. The ARIDE program stresses the importance of the signs and symptoms of the seven drug categories. This course will train law enforcement officers to observe\, identify and articulate the signs of impairment related to drugs\, alcohol\, or a combination of both\, to reduce the number of impaired driving incidents as well as crashes which result in serious injuries and fatalities. This course will educate other criminal justice professionals (prosecutors\, toxicologists\, and judges) to understand the signs of impairment related to drugs\, alcohol\, or a combination of both\, to enable them to effectively work with law enforcement to reduce the number of impaired driving incidents as well as crashes which result in serious injuries and fatalities. \nTraining attire is uniform or business casual. \nTo register\, use the Acadis portal MLEA ACADIS \nIf you have issues registering contact Sergeant Lucas Herl at  406-422-8660 lucas.herl@mt.gov .

SUMMARY:Advanced Traffic Stops

We’ll also\ncover the big court decisions that shape how you do your job\, and dig into things\nlike K9 sniffs\, inventories\, and probable cause searches. \nThis training is instructed by retired police officer and case law expert Zach Miller. SUMMARY:Total Montana Traffic Stop
DESCRIPTION:POST has approved this training for 16 hours. \nThe topics covered are best practices\, justifications for lawful traffic stops\, lawful vehicle searches and Montana case law and statutes. \nWithout proper instruction\, effectively building a criminal case from a traffic stop can appear complicated and overwhelming. Officers are often shortchanged and have trouble knowing what laws coincide with applicable offenses. Understanding traffic law is crucial in order to be an effective and proactive police officer. Many of our greatest apprehensions begin on the foundational principles of understanding traffic law. “The Total Traffic Stop – Montana Edition” is meant to enhance every Montana police officer’s knowledge of traffic statutes and associated case law\, while also providing an extreme gain in confidence.  This course also provides a deep dive into the legalities and best practices for obtaining the ability to search a vehicle\, whether that be through consent\, a search warrant\, or an exception to the written warrant requirement. \nMistakes and embarrassments occur when police officers lack the education to know what they should be doing. This 2-day course is designed to provide clarification in relation to questions and myths on what officers can and cannot do. The course entails unique and little-known laws and case law that many officers are unaware of. Additionally\, it will provide a comprehensive understanding of how to utilize the correct laws and precedents in all settings. This is to include\, but not limited to\, traffic enforcement\, patrol functions\, criminal interdiction\, and impaired driving. In terms of suppression of criminal cases\, the first thing defense attorneys argue is the motor vehicle violation and its proper application. The second being the legality of the search of the vehicle. This course is critical to ensure cases stemming from traffic stops are built on a solid foundation\, rather than a guessing game. \nYellowstone Narcotics takes pride in our students’ investigations long after our course is complete and make ourselves available to assist you with any future cases developed from the techniques presented in this course. \nTo Register visit www.yellowstonenarcotics.com [yellowstonenarcotics.com] and click on “In-Person Training”. \nTo Register: Visit www.yellowstonenarcotics.com [yellowstonenarcotics.com] and click on “In-Person Training”.
