The Narcotics Bureau is a statewide drug enforcement agency that initiates and conducts all types of dangerous-drug investigations throughout the state. The Narcotics Bureau also provides investigative assistance at the request of city, county, state and federal law enforcement agencies within Montana and in neighboring states.
Narcotics Bureau agents also investigate organized criminal activity and assist other DCI bureaus in their investigations.
Montana’s dangerous drug statutes are found in Title 45, Chapter 9 of the Montana Code Annotated.
Narcotics Agents
Narcotics Bureau agents operate throughout Montana and coordinate their efforts with several local drug teams. Agents routinely assist other law enforcement agencies with:
- Undercover drug investigations
- Multi-offender/multi-state conspiracy investigations
- Responding to the discovery of clandestine methamphetamine labs and assisting with evidence collection and cleanup
- Non-drug investigations like murder-for-hire, weapons violations, fugitive apprehension and anti-government organizations
