Special Services Bureau

The Special Services Bureau is an agency-wide initiative at the Montana Department of Justice. The bureau includes multiple programs and initiatives dedicated to improving how Montana professionals respond to victims of crime and abuse by promoting state-of-the-art approaches based on current research. The programs each work to help victims recover and move on with their lives.

The Special Services Bureau includes the following:

Montana Child Sexual Abuse Response Team (MCSART)

MCSART helps train and coordinate teams of professionals who ensure that a child victim and their caregivers are safe and that they receive services and any evidence is gathered to bring the child’s assailant to justice. MCSART also provides training for professionals around the state to ensure that all Montana’s child victims receive the same high level of care and that justice prevails.

Office of the Child and Family Ombudsman (OCFO)

The Ombudsman is available for citizens who have questions or concerns about Montana’s child welfare systems. OCFO provides oversight of the Department of Health and Human Services, Child and Family Services Division’s responsibilities to respond to reports of child abuse and their work to keep children safe from abuse and families strong.

Facility Investigator / Intensive Behavioral Center (IBC)

The Residential Facility Investigator for the Montana Department of Justice is responsible for investigating allegations of mistreatment, neglect, abuse, or injury occurring at the the Intensive Behavioral Center (IBC) located in Boulder, Montana.

Montana Missing Indigenous Persons Task Force (MMIPTF)

A statewide effort to reduce the number of missing indigenous persons and increase resources when a person is reported missing.

Office of Victim Services

The Office of Victim Services offers a variety of programs and resources for victims of crime, responders, and organizations in the criminal justice system. OVS staff are prepared to connect victims, individuals, and families with information and available services. OVS seeks to ensure all individuals have access to our programs and resources.
