Billings, MT.—At approximately 1050AM on April 4th, 2017, the Billings Police Department engaged in a pursuit with a suspect driving a stolen Toyota pickup truck and claiming to have an explosive device. The pursuit led to the interstate where the Montana Highway Patrol took over as primary responders. The suspect exited the interstate at Exit 434 in Laurel and headed into city limits. Law enforcement deployed spike strips multiple times and the vehicle sustained one flat tire, but the suspect continued to drive the vehicle on three tire rims.

As the suspect continued the pursuit towards a local high school, an MHP Sergeant attempted to disable the vehicle by taking legal intervention as the suspect drove at a speed of 20 mph. The suspect vehicle glanced off the patrol car and continued. The suspect then traveled eastbound in the wrong direction on 6th Avenue North. The suspect turned north on N. 15th Street and abandoned his vehicle. He then climbed onto the Rims and was surrounded by law enforcement officials, including the local Tact Team. The suspect surrendered at approximately 4:20 PM MST.

More information will be released as it becomes available.
