The primary purpose of the Basic Coroner course is to provide coroners and deputy coroners with the skills necessary to respond to, investigate and document death scenes in Montana. The course is required by state law for county coroners within 12 months of election. Topics typically covered include laws pertaining to coroners, cause of death and autopsy, forensic odontology, excited delirium, trace evidence considerations, camera operations and death scene photography, scene preservation, tissue and organ donation and working with the media and families as well as state agencies.

If you are planning on staying on campus and eating meals here the cost is $20.00 per day for lodging, $28.00 for the full meal plan or $10.00 for lunch only. Lunch IS NOT included in the training. there is a $100 fee for this training.
