This is a one-week, 40-hour training program designed to prepare first responders
with the requisite knowledge and skills to effectively respond to individuals experiencing a mental health crisis. This course is based on the Memphis Model of Crisis Intervention Teams and includes various methods for learning and development of practical skills, including lectures, discussions, scenario-based training, and individual and group exercises.
This course was developed in accordance with best practices across multiple sources, as listed in the course references. Participants are required to conduct at least one site visit prior to the course, and they will be expected to provide written verification of its completion.
This is a comprehensive course that emphasizes mental health-related topics, crisis intervention skills, scenario-based training, and education/access to community resources. The material is complex, and participants are provided with only a basic overview throughout this course. Participants are encouraged to engage in ongoing efforts to continue to build upon the foundational education and training provided to them from this course.
The training sessions will run from 0800 until 1700 each day with a one-hour lunch break from 1200-1300 hours. Breakfast will be available as well as snacks, water and coffee.
