Highlighting the U.S. DOJ 2024 framework for strengthening Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence prosecution, the training will include building rapport with victims; corroborating victim statements; using the law and evidentiary rules strategically and effectively; lessening victim re-traumatization; sustaining a productive, healthy, and committed workforce; discussion/consultation on challenging cases; hands-on skills practice; and networking with other Montana prosecutors.

About our Speakers:
Kathleen Campbell is the Bureau Chief, Trial Division, for the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office where she has served since 2011. Kathleen worked in the Office’s Sex Crimes Bureau from 2013-2024, prosecuting some of the most complex and difficult sexual violence cases involving child and adult victims. In addition, Kathleen trains and mentors new attorneys and teaches continuing education courses for law enforcement, prosecutors, paralegals, and victim advocates. The Arizona Prosecuting Attorneys’ Advisory Council recognized her as the 2023 Felony Prosecutor of the Year (Large Jurisdiction). Kathleen attended Arizona State University where she earned her Juris Doctorate in 2011 and graduated Magna Cum Laude with her Bachelor of Science in Justice Studies in 2008.
Fara Gold currently serves as an attorney advisor for the Office on Violence Against Women with the United States Department of Justice (USDOJ), where she spearheaded development of the Framework for Prosecutors to Strengthen Our National Response to Sexual Assault & Domestic Violence, published in May 2024. Prior to that, Fara served as Special Litigation Counsel and Senior Sex Crimes Counsel for USDOJ’s Civil Rights Division for nearly 14 years, where she traveled throughout the country prosecuting law enforcement misconduct cases and bias-motivated crimes, including the first case prosecuted under the Matthew Shepard and James L. Byrd, Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act. Fara has published several articles and conducts nationwide trainings on effectively investigating and prosecuting sexual misconduct. From 2022-2023, Fara served as Senior Counsel on Sexual Misconduct to the Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Rights Division where she played an integral role in the Deputy Attorney General’s efforts to root out sexual abuse within the federal Bureau of Prisons.
Fara was awarded the Attorney General’s Award for Exceptional Service in 2014 (DOJ’s highest honor) and the Attorney General’s Award for Outstanding Contributions by a New Employee in 2012. She also received the DOJ OIG Collaboration Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Inspector General in 2023, the FBI Director’s Award for Excellence in 2021, and the Assistant Attorney General’s Award for Distinguished Service in 2020. Before joining DOJ, Fara served as an Assistant State Attorney for the Broward County State Attorney’s Office in Fort Lauderdale, Florida where she specialized in prosecuting sex crimes and child abuse. Fara also serves as an Adjunct Professor at Georgetown University Law Center where she teaches, “Prosecuting Sex Crimes & Vindicating Constitutional Rights.”
