This course is designed to teach police officers how to use search warrants as an effective tool in criminal investigations. Officers will learn how to articulate elements enough to establish probable cause, withstand suppression issues and decreasing potential for civil liability. Writing search warrants can be very stressful for officers. This course will teach officers how to begin preparing search warrants in the early stages of an investigation. This preparation will help eliminate stress and allow officers to draft quick, detailed search warrants. Officers will obtain training on utilizing formation from confidential informants in search warrant preparations. The course will further explain the proper processes for signing up an informant, establishing their credibility and documentation in investigations. Officers will be able to write thorough and flawless search warrants that can withstand the scrutiny of court proceedings. Upon completion of this course officers will be confident in their ability to prepare and safely execute professional search warrants.

Instructor: Michael Halbleib a Lt. Colonel with the Bullitt County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit and a certified police instructor with the Kentucky Law Enforcement Council and an expert witness for the Jefferson and Bullitt County Commonwealth Attorney’s Offices.
