POST has approved 40 hours!

This 40-hour Montana POST-approved course satisfies NCNA recommendations for the initial training of new crisis negotiators and supports the maintenance of skills for previously trained negotiators. Drawing from a wide spectrum of established sources and best practices, the course provides students with a foundational understanding of crisis negotiation fundamentals, types of critical incidents, risk assessment, suicide assessment and intervention, and other essential negotiation topics. Students will learn and practice working as part of a crisis negotiation team, including an understanding of team roles and coordination during high-risk incidents. A central focus of the course is the development and application of Active Listening Skills (ALS) and de-escalation techniques to significantly reduce risk and enhance safety during hostage situations, kidnappings, barricaded subjects, suicidal person calls, and other critical law enforcement operations.
