POST has approved 40 hours.

There will be a nighttime shoot, hours will be adjusted on that day to fit.

Goals:

• Students will become familiar with firearms safety instructional methods
• Students will learn about the civil and criminal liability associated with instructing
• Students will learn the role of the instructor
• Students will learn the instructional techniques necessary for teaching firearms
• Students will learn how to operate a firing line
• Students will learn range preparation
• Students will learn handgun and rifle instructional methods
• Students will learn disabled officer techniques
• Students will learn lowlight and no-light shooting techniques
• Students will learn appropriate use of cover and techniques for utilizing cover
• Students will learn the difference between qualifications and training
• Students will learn positional shooting methods and the rationale behind each one
• Students will learn to diagnose and correct poor performance
• Students will learn the potential downfalls and shortcomings of a firearms program

Students will need to supply all required equipment and ammunition, (1,000 rounds of handgun, 1,000 rounds of rifle). A full equipment list and schedule will be sent out after registration.
