POST has approved 120 hours.
The Montana Executive Leadership Institute (MELI) is an intensive, 120-hour leadership development program designed for current and emerging public safety and professional leaders. The curriculum draws from leadership concepts, practices, and methodologies taught at institutions including the United States Military Academy at West Point, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School, the FBI National Academy, and the International Association of Chiefs of Police.
Conducted over three one-week sessions, MELI challenges participants to examine their own leadership, evaluate individual and team performance, strengthen organizational culture, and make effective strategic decisions in complex and changing environments. The program combines academic concepts with practical application, case studies, assessments, contemporary leadership issues, and the experiences of instructors and guest speakers who have held significant leadership responsibilities.
While MELI was originally developed for executive-level public safety professionals, its principles extend beyond law enforcement. Leaders in fire service, corrections, emergency communications, government, nonprofit, and other professional organizations will find its lessons relevant and applicable. Participation is not limited to Montana. MELI welcomes participants from across the United States and internationally.
Enrollment is intentionally limited to 32 participants to encourage discussion, interaction with instructors, and a strong cohort learning environment.
