The target audience is any law enforcement official who, by rank or circumstance, would be faced with having to take charge of an active shooter situation.

The purpose of this course is to equip law enforcement supervisors with leadership strategies to effectively manage personnel safety, decision-making, and tactical coordination during active attacker incidents, with the goal of saving as many lives as possible

Learning Objectives:   During this course, participants will receive information and instruction on how to:

• Using inverted thinking as a problem-solving technique, identify the worst possible outcomes of an active attacker event, and during the course, list the various law enforcement responses that aid in preventing that outcome.
• Review the commonalities of active attacker events, including location, victims, and weapons.
• Identify the incident priorities of initial responding officers when responding to an active attacker event, whether line staff or supervisors, and discuss how these are accomplished through an integrated response.
• Using the Active Shooter Incident Management Checklist, identify key functions within the National Incident Management System (NIMS) Incident Command System (ICS).
• Using case studies of active attacker events, analyze various responses, including those made by supervisors, and how they affected both positive and negative outcomes.
• Discuss the supervisor’s influential leadership role in preparing for and responding to an active attacker event or other critical incident.
•  Identify supervisor post-engagement priorities of work and activities following an active attacker event.
