The purpose of the Use of Force Training Program is to provide the Law Enforcement Officer with a better understanding of the Constitutional requirements for making use of force decisions;
Develop proficiency at recognizing when force is objectively reasonable; Develop the Law Enforcement Officer’s ability to recognize additional factors that affect the decision to use force;
Develop the decision-making process as it pertains to de-escalating chaotic situations as peacefully as possible while not unreasonably increasing the risk of harm to the officer, the public, or the suspect; Develop the officer’s ability to articulate facts using plain language rather than with conclusory statements.
