Troopers to Collaborate with Law Enforcement Partners on Upcoming Bozeman Cop on a Bus Deployment

What:                 Cop on a Bus Deployment

When:                Tuesday, March 28th, 2017

Where:               Bozeman, MT.

The Montana Highway Patrol will partner with the Bozeman Police Department and Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday, March 28th, 2017 to conduct a Cop on a Bus deployment. The deployment will focus on identifying and enforcing traffic laws as they pertain to the conduct of motorists encountering school buses.

The Cop on a Bus program was developed in response to many reports from local bus drivers regarding stop arm violations in the community. Bus drivers in the area reported hundreds of violations last year and each of those violations pose a threat to our children’s safety. This program provides for the education and enforcement of laws when motorists fail to stop for the red flashing lights on a school bus.

The Montana Highway Patrol unveiled the Cop on the Bus safety initiative in partnership with Belgrade and Bozeman Public Schools and local-area law enforcement in August 2016. Since the program’s inception, four local agencies (MHP, Bozeman Police Department, Belgrade Police Department and the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office) have conducted four deployments.
