Major crimes and violent crimes impact public safety across Montana. The Major Case Section, consisting of veteran agents and a supervisor, assists local law enforcement with major criminal investigations including: homicides, missing persons, officer-involved shootings, in-custody deaths, sexual assault, robbery, burglary, official misconduct, public corruption, and theft.
The Major Case Section provides criminal investigation assistance to city, county, state and federal law enforcement agencies at their request. The section also conducts criminal investigations of allegations referred by the Montana State Fund and cases of organized retail theft impacting Montana’s business communities.
